Glasgow's best seafood restaurant: Gamba over the years

Being Glasgow’s best seafood restaurant is a privilege that every member of the Gamba team takes seriously. As we approach Gamba’s 25th anniversary in October 2023, we want to thank you for your loyalty, plus we’re feeling a bit nostalgic, so here are some highlights from Gamba over the years…

Son Andy just grabbed headlines at Wimbledon 2023, and we’re going back to 2019 here to when our chef-patron Derek Marshall had the pleasure of cooking for the board of The Judy Murray Foundation, with the help of Maître d', Gregor Munn too of course. Part of our original team, this was also the year Gregor returned to Gamba after nearly a decade away, and he’s been here ever since.

It was wonderful evening and Gamba donated a special prize to raise essential funds for The Prince & Princess of Wales Hospice earlier that year.

We’ve always been committed to supporting Scottish charities…

Gamba and The Fishermen’s Mission

Gamba has been a staunch supporter of The Fishermen’s Mission and all the valuable work it does, offering a range of services from emergency assistance, to providing financial, medical and practical help. It’s a lifeline for fishermen, working and retired, and their families.

One year we managed through the generosity of our customers to raise £8,500 for the charity, going on to be named its Restaurant of the Year 2016/17.

We were also proud to raise funds for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Gamba turns 21!

Derek, Gregor, William and the rest of the team celebrate Gamba’s 21st birthday

2019 was an eventful year for Gamba. We turned 21, got the key of the door, and when we first opened our doors back in 1998, it was a very different world. Bill Clinton was making global headlines for all the wrong reasons, Spice Girls ruled the world, and Google was founded and about to change the world.

Sustainability and seasonality have always been part of what we do at Gamba, and by working directly with our incredible suppliers who land our fish locally and work with us to deliver the highest quality ingredients in our dishes.

Gamba To Go

Our response to the dark days of the pandemic was to launch Gamba To Go.

We teamed up with Wilson's Catch of the Day to bring the Gamba experience to your homes for the first time, showcasing a wide range of our market-fresh favourite dishes, from a specially crafted menu. It was a tremendous success and kept our spirits up as well as yours during the worst of Covid-19.

Award-winning Gamba
